Teaching and Learning
At BEC we believe that the time young people spend with us is precious as we have the opportunity to revive learners, remove barriers to learning and accelerate the learning of young people. We are able to do this by;
Maintaining small teaching groups to enhance levels of personalisation, differentiation and staff: pupil time ratio.
Shaping curriculum around individuals, their interests and aspirations;
Delivering regular one to one tuition on basic skills at KS3 or group precision teaching sessions at KS4.
Community based projects e.g. local history programme
Multi agency delivery.
Collaborative programmes in local schools e.g. Coaching programmes
After school clubs
At BEC we want a curriculum which responds to the needs of our students and is seen as relevant to their needs on return to school and through to post-16.
The curriculum should;
be balanced, relevant and differentiated to engage and give young people access;
provide the opportunities for students to work at a pace best suited to their own needs;
be delivered in ways which re-engages young people and energises the learning process;
enable young people to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well being;
promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all young people;
provide a seamless pathway back into school or through to post 16 education, training or employment;
prepare students for the responsibilities and opportunities they will face in adult life.

All of the young people at BEC deserve the best opportunities possible and we strive to provide these at all stages of their BEC journey. Not only do we constantly review our approaches to learning and teaching and the our curriculum offer, but we believe that the best way of moving forward is in partnership with other education providers. We have strong links with our Local Authority, secondary schools, post-16 providers and businesses. Only by collaborating with our parent and local community and all of these institutions can we move forward and continue to provide the best education for young people at BEC
